PARTNERSHIPS
Code Of Ethics

The people we choose to work with are such an important part of creating our pieces. We have an internal code of ethics that allows us to vet suppliers. This guarantees our suppliers share our values when it comes to issues like fair working conditions and ethical practices. As part of our Responsible Design Roadmap we will be creating a formal document for our suppliers to sign, enhancing and solidifying our current agreements. This will be externally published for transparency.

Supply Chain Visibility

We see each of our suppliers as collaborators, and understanding where and how they work is crucial. We have personally met all of our suppliers and our team does regular visits to facilities. This means we feel confident releasing garments that have been created responsibly and to a high standard.

Artisanal Makers And Empowering Women

We have a deep admiration for handmade items, so work closely to support artisanal communities and keep traditional craftsmanship alive. With each new season & collection, we look for opportunities to connect with more communities locally, including Indigenous artists. Some of our artisanal partnerships for products include the Chandroti India knitting program, West Bengal Indian towel weavers and dyers, and Papua New Guinea bilum bags.

Chandroti India Knitting Project

As part of our passion to support and empower women, from 2010 – 2012 we worked with a hand-knitting collective of women from remote villages in the Himalayas. These women appreciated that this work could be done around their home responsibilities and offered them independent income. We know that income from this work was used to purchase medicine, water purification, oil lamps for lighting and eye glasses.

West Bengal Indian Towel Weavers And Dyers

One of our most prized partnerships began in 2009 with a trip to West Bengal. Struck by its beauty and artistry, we were inspired to collaborate and develop a series of hand-loomed beach towels that we have commissioned each year since.  Each towel is uniquely interwoven with the artisan's own flair. A true testament of slow fashion and traditional craftsmanship, the hand looming of each towel takes 6 days and our signature 120 pom poms that adorn the edges take 4 days to complete, and another day to attach.

Papua New Guinea 'Among Equals' Bilum Bag

Launched in our stores in November 2022, Among Equals bilums are produced by women of the Papua New Guinea highlands, Telefomin region and Sepik river. The bags provide fair and stable independent income to women of remote communities.

Supporting Local Industry

We have partnered with the Australian Fashion Council (AFC) who are working with the government to rebuild the Australian garment industry. We are excited to connect with other like-minded brands on this, because together we are stronger.

In 2022 we were selected by the AFC to be part of the Australian Fashion Trademark. This campaign supports and promotes Australian fashion brands, aiming to amplify the uniqueness of our industry on the international stage.
