“My name is Dan, and I have almost 20 years of experience in coffee.”
Dan started Primary in 2017 as a coffee-focused espresso bar. Why? He wanted to do something he enjoyed, making the coffee he liked to drink and sharing it with people who appreciated it.
“Before coffee, I studied Hospitality Management. At the time, I was busy studying and working at cafes and restaurants for almost 60-70 hours a week. One day at work, I saw the barista doing latte art…which was very rare back in 2004…and that’s when I quit my restaurant job and focused on coffee making.”
When naming Primary, Dan says he wanted Primary Coffee to be the "primary" part of his customer’s daily routine.
“Potts Point has a great mix of locals, visitors, artists, and restaurants leading the latest trends, which creates a unique vibe in the community.”
“It is certainly one of the trendiest suburbs in Sydney, yet there is a small local community feel to it which is almost family-like. I think this is what constantly influences, not just my business but almost everyone in Potts Point. People with all different professional and personal interests, forming a very big and trendy family.”
"Filter coffee is my go-to. Coffee that I can sit and drink all day!"
As a friend of Jac + Jack, Dans says we have a lot in common… “Simple and minimal design. Everyday wear, just as coffee is an everyday drink”
“I grew up here in Australia since I was a kid, but I do go back to Korea to see my relatives and friends and whenever I do, I am always amazed by its architectural scene and cafe/bar interior designs.”
“I wanted my shop to be my second home; comfortable, clean and minimal. Primary is all about coffee and comfort.”
As for Dan’s personal style… “I am now 40, and I used to love hip-hop when I was a teenager in the 90s. Wearing hip-hop outfits reminds me of my teenage days, it’s very comfortable and I can hide my belly.”
